Helen M. Courter
Helen M. Courter, 92, of Bethany, Mo., and formerly of Coffey, Mo., died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Bethany. She was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Harrison County, Mo., to John Sylvester and Eliza Jestin (Cox) Holley.
She was a school teacher in the area for many years. She attended Central Missouri State University and graduated from Northwest Missouri State. She married Henry “Hank” Courter on Dec. 24, 1938. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethany and the Sunlight Chapter 247 Order of Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Courter, on July 19, 2001; nine brothers, Levi, Claude, Troy, Rufus, Arch, Benjamin, Wilbur, Lawrence and Marvin; and four sisters, Mina Premer, Opal Flint Overton, Della Prindle and Pearl Holley.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Kent) Holcomb of Albany, Mo.; a son, Jerry (Barbara) Courter of Gladstone, Mo.; three granddaughters, Kerra (Rob) Bowers of Richmond, Mo., Sara Courter of Gladstone, Mo., and Colleen Courter of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Korby (Angie) Holcomb of Lynchburg, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Colby, Brock, McCauley Bowers and Zachary and Taylor Holcomb and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 6, at Roberson Funeral Home of Bethany. Burial was at the Coffey Cemetery in Coffey.

Garel Rainey
Garel Rainey, 86, of King City, Mo., died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at King City Manor. He was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Fairport, Mo., to Martin and Goldie (McMillen) Rainey.
He graduated from Grandview High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate 1st Class in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. He married Jessie Rose Slaybaugh on June 28, 1947, in King City by the Rev. Billy Herford. He was a retired farmer and trucker. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of King City and a member of American Legion Post 132 of King City. He served as presiding commissioner of Gentry County, Mo., and on many boards and committees.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three sisters, Retha Rainey, Galyn Coger and Cuma Ray; and a brother, Robert Rainey.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jessie Rose Rainey; two sons, Steve (Debbie) Rainey of King City and Rick (Vickie) Rainey of Berlin, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Rainey, Ryan Rainey, Natalie (Marc) Byergo and Valerie Rainey.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Roberson Funeral Home of King City. Burial with military rites will be at the Berlin Cemetery in Berlin.
