Salmons to celebrate 75th anniversary

Olen and Virginia Salmon will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2, 2014.

They were married on that date in 1939 at the McFall Methodist Church. Olen and Virginia met in high school. They lived on a farm near McFall for more 50 years and now reside in Gallatin, Mo. They have two children, Linda and Gary (Nancy); two grandchildren, Stephanie Cole and sons Wes, Gabe and Will (Natalie) Salmon and daughters Kailey, Karley and Kallie.

They have always been active members in their church and enjoy playing cards and cooking.

A family celebration is being planned. Cards may be sent to them at 601 A West Richardson, Gallatin, MO 64640.


Shupe, Appleton to wed

Brooke Shupe and Seth Appleton announce their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

Shupe is the daughter of Timothy and Barbara Shupe of Stanberry, Mo., and Appleton is the son of Robert and Susan Appleton of St. Louis, Mo.

Shupe is a 2002 graduate of Stanberry High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a degree in agribusiness management. After college, she moved to Washington, D.C., for an internship and has been there ever since. Following six years of work on Capitol Hill, Shupe joined the National Association of Wheat Growers, where she currently serves as director of Government Affairs for Risk Management.

Appleton is a 2000 graduate of Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School and a 2004 graduate of Stanford University with a degree in history. While studying at Stanford, Appleton interned at the U.S. Department of State and in the U.S. Senate, and, after graduating, returned to Washington to work in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ten years later, Appleton is still there, currently serving as chief of staff to Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer of Missouri.

The couple currently resides in Washington, D.C., and will be married this fall in Kansas City, Mo.
